What is the Difference Between Software QA And Testing

What is quality assurance?

Quality Assurance (QA) focuses on 'prevention'. It covers all software development processes. QA encompasses processes such as code reviews and release management. It is the processes followed by people within the project (Project Managers, Analysts, Developers, Testers, etc.) to prevent problems and assure quality.

Understanding software testing

Software testing is a subset of Quality Assurance. Software testing focuses on 'detection'. Testing is one process that helps ensure software quality. Testing involves the operation of a system or application under controlled conditions and the evaluation of the results, i.e. “if the user is in interface A of the application does B, then C should happen”. The controlled conditions should include both normal and abnormal conditions. Testing should intentionally attempt to make things go wrong to determine if things happen when they shouldn't or things don't happen when they should. Early testing can also 'prevent' errors. For example, testing software requirements and identifying errors there will prevent those errors from migrating to design and code
